Sponsor Simon's Troop
Simon's Troop are one of the largest at the centre. Thanks to a fundraiser by Edythe Guice, a small grant from IPPL and a few further sponsors these baboons are enjoying life in a large, natural bush-camp enclosure.
The semi-wild enclosure is exactly what it says it is; where the baboons can enjoy an almost-wild life! It is in a nature reserve, within the baboons natural bush habitat. Within the electric fence, there is an abundance of space and all the grasses, shrubs and fruiting trees which their bodies evolved to eat - marulas, sour plum, bush willow, bushmans grape, silver raisin and other grewia bushes, knob thorns, silver clusterleaf, lowveld cluster leaf and so many more trees and plants - not to mention an array of bugs!
C.A.R.E. will still provide food for the baboons, as they will not have the amount of space available to them that a real wild life would provide them with, but they can live within the safety of the electric fence and enjoy the best of both worlds! We wish and hope we could give this type of enclosure to every troop of baboons at C.A.R.E. This is our second semi-wild enclosure and in Jan 2018 we completed our 3rd.
These baboons need regular deworming, love eggs, seeds and nuts; you can ensure they remain healthy and happy.
Simon's troop was formed with 4 adult once-orphaned baboons which adopted a lot of incoming orphans to form a great troop, with lots of females for release. The troop is still young minus the adults and have time and space to grow up in their semi-wild bush home prior to being ready for release. Growing baboons need good nutrition which will set them in good health for the rest of their lives. You can help ensure they get it!

IIt would be incredible to have someone cover all the weekly costs but understand that it isn't always financially feasible; therefore we hope to build up a few sponsors for this troop to help cover the costs monthly. If you can give whatever amount you can, we will search for others and hope that between you we can cover the costs of caring for this gorgeous troop of baboons as they under-go their rehabilitation for release journey.
