Sponsor Weirdos Troop

Weirdo's troop - a funny name, but the volunteer care-givers at the time meant it affectionately.

This troop is a medium sized group of orphans, but with lots of big males Adrien, Buster, Jimmy-James, Kong, Blaze, and Noah they need lots of good food to keep them content and minimise fighting from competition of food.

The female orphans; Savannah, Leash, Dannika, Nelly, Frankie-Jean, Eun Joo and Vivi-Mae are sweet and good natured.  All the baboons in this troop come from various back-grounds; all lost their mothers and were rescued from inappropriate, upsetting circumstances.

Savannah has a permanent scar across the top of her head; caused because she was kept in a tiny cage and she tried in vein to escape her cruel human captors who killed her mother.  She has found sanctuary at C.A.R.E. and a new baboon family but her physical scars are a cruel reminder of her sufferings in the past.

This troop of mis-fits have found a new baboon family and through rehabilitation for release at C.A.R.E. have been given a second chance to life.

Whilst they await release, they need good care, good nutrition, regular cleaning, fresh hay, enrichments, clean water each day, deworming, veterinary care and enclosure maintenance.  You can help us provide the best care to these special animals which deserve hope and an enriched life.

Choose what you want to sponsor, how much you can afford and how often with our weekly or monthly subscriptions.

Opt out any time and know you are making a difference every day!

Weirdos are a special group of baboons with very sweet personalities.  They are sub-adults are perfect release candidates.  We would love to use the females as surrogate mothers for incoming orphans in the future; but first we must increase their enclosure size.

They're fed;

3 sack-fulls of fresh food daily (R120)

60 (min) eggs per week - R110

2 bales of grass per week - R160

3kg bag of peanuts per week - R90

5 kg scatter feed (nuts, corn, seeds) per week - R100

10 kg dry food scatter  per week along with - R140

a bag of mealie meel per month which is pasted onto sticks and leaves and given as enrichment - R120 pm (R30 pw)

= R750 per week  ($65 / 45 GBP) per week ($251 per month)

It would be incredible to have someone cover all the weekly costs but understand that it isn't always financially feasible; therefore we hope to build up a few sponsors for this troop to help cover the costs monthly.

If you can give whatever amount you can, we will search for others and hope that between you we can cover the costs of caring for this gorgeous troop of baboons as they under-go their rehabilitation for release journey.
